This leaves Salim with no option other than to assume the Jinn’s identity and position behind the wheel of the taxi. After their sexual encounter, the Jinn takes all of Salim’s possessions (including an airplane ticket to Oman) and checks out of the hotel under his name. The Ifrit describes his tenure in his taxicab almost as a trap or, to follow more familiar Jinn territory, a bottle or lamp. In the books, this encounter is tinged with a bit more sadness. In this sequence, Salim ( Omid Abtahi), a world-weary salesman, encounters an Ifrit ( Mousa Kraish), otherwise known as a Jinn or, if you must, a Genie.
